Job Description
This work description is applicable to all Receptionist (NOC 1414).
- Answer and forward phone calls,
- take messages,
- book appointments, and
- handle other clerical tasks while greeting visitors as they arrive at offices, hospitals, and other organizations.

Duties of the position
- Welcome visitors to workplaces and other businesses, point them in the direction of the right personnel or services, give general information in person or over the phone, and possibly do clerical tasks including keeping the front desk secure and maintaining security access lists.
- Patients are interviewed to gather the data needed to deliver hospital and medical services.
- Welcome patients, make appointments using manual or electronic systems, take payments for services and record them, and lead patients to the proper locations.
- Answer, screen, and forward incoming calls; take messages; offer information as needed; and maybe do clerical tasks using a phone system or switchboard.
- Answer the phone, take messages, and convey them.
- Show customers where they should go, keep track of reservations, manage credit card payments, accept money, generate receipts, plan tours, and handle emergencies.
- Establish teleconferences, provide relay phone service for people with impairments, operate telephone systems to advance and complete customers’ telephone conversations, including long distance, pay telephone, mobile radio/telephone, and person-to-person calls.
